Mijn man en ik (50+ers) wilden Japan ontdekken in oktober 2024. We hadden maar 2 weken verlof en daar begint het al: kiezen is verliezen, want Japan is groot en er is zó veel te zien.  

Gelukkig was Aya er om ons in de selectie te begeleiden.

Aya stelt de juiste vragen om te achterhalen waar je interesses voornamelijk liggen (uiteraard wel enkele highlights, maar zonder de tourist traps!). Lees je vooraf best al wat in zodat je weet welke aspecten van Japan jou het meest boeien.  Hoe concreter, hoe beter Aya kan helpen!

Enkele belangrijke keuzes die je moet overwegen 

1: de grootte van de regio die je zal bezoeken : hoeveel verplaatsingen wil je doen, en hoeveel nachten op 1 plaats zijn wenselijk?  Dit zal het reisgebied bepalen.

2 : welke plekken in dat gebied wil je bezoeken + welke activiteiten ?  Aya overloopt de opties volledig in overleg, en noteert wat je best vooraf al reserveert (bv workshops, museum)

3 : welk transport ga je nemen? auto (links rijden!), metro, trein of boot.  Aya zoekt uit hoe lang de verplaatsingen duren met het vervoersmiddel naar keuze, noteert zorgvuldig alle praktische informatie om dit te regelen, en geeft advies.

4: logement! Aya maakt een selectie volgens je budget en je wensen en houdt rekening met de ligging en de bereikbaarheid. 

Ruim op tijd ontvingen we een super uitgebreid schema met de volledig uitgewerkte planning, het transport per dag en de tijd die dit in beslag neemt, de gegevens van het hotel, de kostprijs, de activiteiten... met de links naar de nuttige websites. 

Zelfs voor ervaren reizigers, is vakantie in Japan een uitdaging. Je begrijpt werkelijk niéts van de taal, er gelden veel ongeschreven regels, en dan is er nog het speciale eten...

Op eigen houtje een reis naar Japan organiseren is tasten in het duister, en wellicht verlies je ondanks al je voorbereidingen toch nog massa's tijd ter plaatse.  

Wat een zegen was het om Aya's begeleiding te hebben, en wat een fijne vrouw ook!  

Als Japanse die Engels, Nederlands en zelfs Duits spreekt en al meer dan 10 jaar woonachtig in Europa, kent ze als geen ander de cultuurverschillen. Zij is de geknipte persoon om van jouw Japanreis één van de topervaringen van je leven te maken.

ps: een Japanner is er nooit op uit een toerist onheus te behandelen of geld uit zijn zakken te kloppen. Eerlijker dan daar vind je ze nergens.  Zelfs fooien geven ze verontwaardigd terug, waar zie je dàt nog?!

My husband and I (both over 50) wanted to discover Japan in October 2024. We only had two weeks of holiday, and that's where it starts: choosing means losing out, because Japan is big and there is so much to see.

Fortunately, Aya was there to guide us through the selection.

Aya asks the right questions to find out where your interests mainly lie (a few highlights of course, but without the tourist traps!). It helps to do some reading beforehand so you know which aspects of Japan appeal to you most. The more specific you can be, the better Aya can help!

A few important choices to consider. First, the size of the region you'll visit: how many transfers do you want to make, and how many nights in one place are desirable? This will determine your travel area. Second, which places in that area do you want to visit, and which activities? Aya goes through all the options in consultation with you and notes down what you should reserve in advance (such as workshops or museums). Third, what transport will you take? Car (driving on the left!), metro, train, or boat. Aya works out how long each journey takes with your chosen mode of transport, carefully notes all the practical information for arranging it, and gives advice. Fourth, accommodation! Aya makes a selection based on your budget and preferences, taking location and accessibility into account.

Well in advance, we received an incredibly detailed itinerary with the fully worked-out planning, the daily transport and how long it takes, hotel details, costs, activities — complete with links to useful websites.

Even for experienced travelers, a holiday in Japan is a challenge. You understand truly nothing of the language, there are many unwritten rules, and then there's the special food...

Organizing a trip to Japan on your own is fumbling in the dark, and despite all your preparations, you'll probably still lose masses of time once you're there.

What a blessing it was to have Aya's guidance, and what a wonderful woman too! As a Japanese person who speaks English, Dutch, and even German, and who has lived in Europe for over ten years, she understands the cultural differences like no one else. P.S.: A Japanese person would never set out to treat a tourist poorly or squeeze money out of their pockets. You won't find more honest people anywhere. They even hand back tips with indignation — where do you still see that?!

We travelled for the first time to Japan with our 3 kids, aged 10, 12 and 14 years old. I’m used to plan my trips myself but felt we could use some help this time. Onze reis door Japan werd volledig geregeld door Aya-san, en dat was een schot in de roos. Ze combineert het Japanse oog voor detail en oprechte aandacht voor de mensen voor wie ze werkt met iets verrassend Belgisch: écht luisteren. Niet gewoon noteren wat je zegt, maar begrijpen wat je bedoelt. Ze heeft aandacht voor élk gezinslid en zorgde dat elk van ons momenten had om naar uit te kijken. 

Wij wilden Japan ontdekken zonder de klassieke toeristische hotspots, en precies dat heeft ze voor ons mogelijk gemaakt. Het resultaat was een reis die eerlijk en puur aanvoelde — zen, gastvrij, lokaal en prachtig in zijn eenvoud. Elke stap klopte, elke ontmoeting voelde authentiek. 

Het enige nadeel: ik wil terug.

Our trip through Japan was entirely arranged by Aya-san, and it was a bullseye. She combines the Japanese eye for detail and genuine care for the people she works for with something surprisingly Belgian: truly listening. Not just noting down what you say, but understanding what you mean. She pays attention to every family member and made sure each of us had moments to look forward to.

We wanted to discover Japan without the classic tourist hotspots, and that is exactly what she made possible for us. The result was a trip that felt honest and pure — zen, welcoming, local, and beautiful in its simplicity. Every step was right, every encounter felt authentic.

The only downside: I want to go back.

Daily surprises, amazing stays, and impeccable logistics made our multi-family trip a total success. Aya’s expert planning allowed us to simply enjoy the best of Japan. We wouldn't dream of booking another trip without her.

In 2017 reisden we met vier gezinnen op een zestiendaagse trip door Japan die Aya van A tot Z voor ons had samengesteld. Wat er die twee weken van gemaakt werd, overtroffen al onze verwachtingen.

Aya bouwde een reis met een perfecte balans: bruisend Tokio, de rust van een traditionele ryokan in Takayama, de spirituele stilte van Koyasan, de levendige sfeer van Osaka, het historische gewicht van Hiroshima. Geen standaard-Japan-van-het-lijstje, maar een route die voor een diverse groep – van de avontuurlijkste reizigers tot de meest kritische tieners – op elk moment iets te bieden had.

Wat het verschil maakte, was Aya's persoonlijke betrokkenheid. Ze vergezelde ons met haar man Walter en dochtertje Mona, en de momenten waarop haar kennis van de taal en de cultuur doorslaggevend was, zijn niet te tellen. Van het bestellen van een pizza laat op de eerste avond tot het wegwijs worden in de Japanse metro, van het vinden van het juiste restaurant tot het vermijden van de klassieke toeristenval: zonder Aya hadden we véél meer tijd verloren en véél minder beleefd.

De highlights die ze inbouwde waren memorabel: een sushiworkshop in Nara, de besneeuwde dorpjes van Shirakawa-go, het eeuwenoude kerkhof van Koyasan, de kers op de taart van elke dag in de vorm van een zorgvuldig gekozen restaurant. Elk onderdeel voelde doordacht, niet lukraak gekozen.

Haar roadbook was gedetailleerd en praktisch: vervoer, timings, tips, alles klopte. En haar rustige, oplossingsgerichte aanpak – zelfs toen een geannuleerde vlucht de laatste dagen overhoop gooide – zorgde ervoor dat we ons nooit alleen voelden staan.

Het laatste woord van ons reisverslag vat het perfect samen: "Dit had niet gekund zonder de inbreng van Aya. Aya, arigato gozaimas!!"

We zijn er zeker van terug te keren – en we weten al wie we bellen.

In 2017, we traveled with four families on a sixteen-day trip through Japan that Aya had put together for us from start to finish. What those two weeks turned into exceeded all our expectations.

Aya built a journey with a perfect balance: the buzz of Tokyo, the tranquility of a traditional ryokan in Takayama, the spiritual silence of Koyasan, the lively atmosphere of Osaka, the historic weight of Hiroshima. Not a standard check-the-box Japan trip, but a route that offered something at every moment for a diverse group — from the most adventurous travelers to the most critical teenagers.

What made the difference was Aya's personal involvement. She accompanied us with her husband Walter and little daughter Mona, and the moments where her knowledge of the language and culture proved decisive are too many to count. From ordering a pizza late on the first evening to finding our way through the Japanese metro, from locating the right restaurant to avoiding the classic tourist trap: without Aya, we would have lost far more time and experienced far less.

The highlights she built in were memorable: a sushi workshop in Nara, the snow-covered villages of Shirakawa-go, the ancient cemetery of Koyasan, and the cherry on top of each day in the form of a carefully chosen restaurant. Every element felt thoughtful, never random.

Her roadbook was detailed and practical: transport, timings, tips — everything was spot on. And her calm, solution-oriented approach — even when a canceled flight threw the final days into disarray — made sure we never felt left on our own.

The closing line of our travel report sums it up perfectly: "This would not have been possible without Aya's contribution. Aya, arigato gozaimasu!!"

We are certain we'll return — and we already know who we'll call.
